Chittagong Kings' left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny has been reported for a suspected bowling action during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
On-field umpires Masudur Rahman Mukul and Raveendra Wimalasiri raised concerns about his action during Chittagong’s final league-phase match against Fortune Barishal on Saturday.
“The umpires reported his bowling action three days ago,” said BPL technical committee chairman Raquibul Hasan on Tuesday.
“The bowling review committee will assess him, and he must undergo an evaluation within seven days. However, he is still eligible to bowl in the tournament.”
Sunny played in the Qualifier 1 match against Fortune Barishal but remained wicketless in his two overs as Chittagong suffered a nine-wicket defeat. He is also eligible to feature in Chittagong Kings' upcoming qualifier match against Khulna Tigers on Wednesday.
This is the second instance this season of a Chittagong spinner being reported for a suspect action, following off-spinner Aliss Al Islam.
Aliss has already undergone an assessment but is still awaiting the results.
This is not the first time Sunny has faced scrutiny over his bowling action. The left-arm spinner, who has represented Bangladesh in 16 ODIs and 10 T20Is, was previously reported for an illegal action during the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup, which led to a ban.
However, he later modified his action and successfully overturned the suspension.
