Durbar Rajshahi, burdened with off-field issues in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), opted to change captaincy midway through the tournament to give Anamul 'some space to concentrate on his batting' on Monday.
Taskin Ahmed has replaced Anamul Haque as their new captain, a Durbar Rajshahi press release announced.
"Durbar Rajshahi would like to inform you all that the team management has decided to give our skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy some space to concentrate only on his batting. Thus we appointed experienced pacer Taskin Ahmed as our new captain for the remaining matches of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League T20," the press release read.
Anamul has been the leading run-getter in the tournament with 324 runs in eight matches and he smashed a sensational knock of unbeaten 100 off 57 balls against Khulna in his side's last game against Khulna Tigers in Chattogram on Sunday.
"However, during the post-match presentation after the match, Anamul was seen emotionally broken down after failing to take his side over the line in a nail-biting affair and thus the management felt that he should only concentrate on his batting without any captaincy pressure which we think will help him remain mentally recharged and focus more the team's qualification bid to the playoffs," the press release added.
Taskin has been in great form too, picking up 18 wickets in eight matches including a record-breaking 7-for in the tournament.
