Chattogram’s local hero Tamim Iqbal, representing Fortune Barishal in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, enjoyed overwhelming support during the Chattogram phase which began on Thursday, much of it for him.
Barishal didn’t disappoint, defeating Dhaka Capitals by 8 wickets and chasing down a 140-run target with four overs to spare.
The win, fueled by Tamim’s half-century and Dawid Malan’s unbeaten 49, placed Barishal second on the points table.
Earlier, Dhaka struggled against the spin magic of Tanvir Islam and the impressive pace bowling of Fahim Ashraf and Jannat Khan, folding for just 139.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim was a lone standout, contributing nearly half of the team’s runs. The southpaw scored 62 hitting two boundaries and four maximums.
Tanvir, who finished with 3/39, missed a hat-trick but played a crucial role in Barishal’s dominant win.
In reply, Barishal cruised with minimal fuss despite losing Shanto for 4 early.
Tamim and Malan built a 117-run partnership off 80 balls. Tamim’s 61 off 48 balls, featuring six fours and a six, marked his third fifty of the tournament before being bowled by Thisara Perera.
Malan remained unbeaten on 49, falling just short of a fifty due to Jannat’s quick cameo of 12 off 4 balls.
