Khaled Mahmud, former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director, commented on the ongoing conflict between BCB President Faruque Ahmed and board director Najmul Abedin Fahim on Monday.
Mahmud criticised the dispute, attributing it to "greed" and "ego."
Speaking on the matter, Mahmud said, “Both of them are former cricketers. Why should there be ego issues between them? They are here to improve cricket. When they joined the board, I noticed a lot of commitment, particularly from Fahim bhai, who spoke extensively about long-term planning. But now, I see none of that. What I see instead is greed. I can’t understand why they are behaving this way.”
Reports suggest that Fahim wanted to take charge of the lucrative cricket operations department, while Faruque had other plans.
Mahmud expressed disappointment over the public nature of their disagreement, saying, “If he doesn’t get cricket operations, he won’t work and threatens to resign. Why? If I am assigned to a different committee, can’t I contribute from there? Why must it be cricket operations? Is he a master of cricket operations? Before him, Akram bhai led that department. So, why isn’t Fahim demanding his previous roles? This has turned into an ego issue. Honestly, I don’t understand what’s happening.”
Mahmud also voiced his displeasure over the situation, saying, “It pains me to see this. Both are senior, respected individuals and cricketers whom I admire. But seeing them act this way makes me feel ashamed. Are we, as cricketers, truly this greedy?”
He further criticised the delay in announcing the board’s standing committees, calling it a failure on the board’s part. “If Faruque bhai is struggling to manage the board with only a few active directors, why hasn’t he brought in other directors?” Mahmud questioned, highlighting inefficiencies in the board's management.
