India's decision not to play in Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy has benefited Pakistan. Although Pakistan has been given the responsibility to host the Champions Trophy, India will not be traveling there to play. Instead, all of India’s matches will be held in Dubai. As a result, Pakistan will gain additional financial benefits. Apart from compensation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will also receive extra revenue.
India's three group-stage matches will take place in Dubai. Additionally, one of the semifinals will be held there. If India qualifies for the final, that match will also be played in Dubai. A PCB official stated that Pakistan will receive 50% of the ticket sales revenue from matches held in Dubai. He said, “The agreement with the Emirates Cricket Board is in its final stages. The Dubai Cricket Stadium has a seating capacity of over 25,000. Not just the India-Pakistan match, but tickets for all of India’s matches will be sold out. Pakistan’s board will receive half the proceeds from ticket sales.”
After India’s objection, there was doubt whether Pakistan could even host the tournament. However, that dispute was eventually settled. At one point, Pakistan accepted the ‘Hybrid’ model which means all the countries will participate in the tournament except India.
Pakistan Cricket Board received compensation due to India’s refusal to travel. Since Pakistan is the official host, they will also be responsible for organizing the matches in Dubai. For this reason, the ICC has provided Pakistan with additional money. Now, with the added revenue from ticket sales, Pakistan is set to enjoy a double financial boost under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi.
