Khulna Tigers’ Oshane Thomas’ first delivery of the Chittagong Kings innings on Tuesday was nothing short of chaotic.
The West Indian quick bowled three no-balls and two wides, handing Chattogram 15 runs on what should have been a single ball. Even Naeem Hasan, caught off the delivery, got a lifeline due to the no-ball.
The incident had Khulna coach Talha Jubair questioning the legitimacy of the first no-ball, as no replays were shown. Talha admitted he had never seen anything like this before.
“Actually, when the wicket fell on the first ball, and then suddenly I saw a no-ball, I had some doubt about it because we didn't see any replay to confirm if it was actually a no-ball. So, they didn’t show the replay of that, and I would like to see the replay or video of that delivery. Secondly, what happened after that—I’ve never seen 15 runs off a single ball, so many no-balls and wides,” Talha told the reporters after the match on Tuesday.
“If you look at Oshane Thomas’ physique, he’s bulky, tall, and broad. So, this kind of player usually has this build, and I feel that there’s a bit of a fitness issue with Oshane Thomas as a fast bowler. It was probably a bad day for him, or maybe he didn’t find his rhythm. But he has a tendency for no-balls; we’ve seen it even in international matches. With his long run-up, maybe it’s never worked out. Perhaps he’s never worked on this issue. That’s probably why this problem occurred,” he added.
“But it’s very rare to see 15 runs off a single ball,” he admitted.
Even Chittagong Kings skipper Mohammad Mithun was surprised to see such an incident.
“I haven’t seen such a thing in my career, this was the first time,” Mithun said.
