Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson became the first ever New Zealand batter to complete 9,000 Test runs, reports India Today.
The Kiwi batter achieved this feat on Day 3 of the 1st Test between New Zealand and England at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Williamson also became the third-joint fastest batter to do so.
Williamson achieved the huge feat during New Zealand's 2nd innings in the 18th over, bowled by Gus Atkinson, as he received a huge round of applause from the crowd. Australia's Steve Smith is the fastest batter to achieve the record feat, followed by Brian Lara.
He became the third-fastest batter alongside Kumar Sangakkara and Younis Khan to achieve the feat in 103 matches. As England continued to dominate the proceedings in the 1st Test, Williamson came to New Zealand's rescue. In the 2nd innings, Chris Woakes provided England with a solid start, dismissing both New Zealand openers early.
