Bashundhara Shuvosangho has launched a three-month sewing training programme in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj, aimed at empowering women to become self-reliant.
The inaugural ceremony took place on Friday at 10:00am in the Economics Department hall of Ullapara Government Akbar Ali College.
Ataur Rahman Raju, adviser of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Ullapara upazila unit, presided over the event. Rashida Sultana Rozi, assistant professor of Kamarkhand Women’s College, was present as the chief guest.
Special guests included Dr Atikur Rahman Atik, assistant professor of the Directorate General of Health Services, and journalist Hafizur Rahman Bablu.
Freedom fighter Firoz Ansari spoke as a guest of honour.
Ataur Rahman Raju, in his welcome speech, said, “The three-month training programme would be completely free of cost. At the end of the programme, each participant will receive a sewing machine from Bashundhara Shuvosangho. Fifteen underprivileged women and students are participating in the training, which will be held regularly on Fridays and Saturdays.”
Speaking at the event, chief guest Rashida Sultana Rozi said, “The initiative taken by Bashundhara Shuvosangho under the slogan ‘Shuvho Kajey Sobar Pashe’ is highly commendable. Women must become economically independent, as true freedom for women is impossible without financial empowerment.”
