A special discussion meeting highlighting various problems and prospects of Bagerhat district was held on Thursday morning at the Bagerhat Red Crescent Building, organised by Bashundhara Shuvosangho Bagerhat district unit.
At the meeting, members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho identified 10 key issues, including the development of roads and communication infrastructure, access to safe drinking water, waterlogging mitigation, and unemployment, among other pressing concerns. They also urged candidates contesting the upcoming election to include concrete commitments to address these issues in their election manifestos.
The discussion was chaired by Mamun Ahmed, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Bagerhat district unit, and moderated by Al Amin Sardar, general secretary of the unit.
Among those present were Vice President Tilka Sarhana Toma; Joint General Secretary Tumpa Akter Mim; Office Secretary Rakibul Islam; Organising Secretary Md Naimur Rahman; Finance Secretary Romana Khatun; Health Affairs Secretary Aishwarya Akter Bhavna; Literature and Cultural Affairs Secretary Bikash Roy; Women and Children Affairs Secretary Mili Akter; Planning Secretary Ratul Kumar Shil; Information and Technology Secretary Alimun Haque Munna; Social Welfare Secretary Rabbi Molla; Women Affairs Secretary Sonia Akter; along with other leaders and executive members of the organisation.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Tilka Sarhana Toma said that Bagerhat has long been facing multiple challenges, including poor road conditions, lack of safe drinking water, and persistent waterlogging.
“With the aim of addressing these longstanding issues, we have formulated a 10-point proposal through today’s discussion. These proposals will be presented to all candidates contesting from the Bagerhat-2 constituency, so that they include them in their election manifestos and commit to their implementation,” she added.
The meeting concluded with a call for collective efforts to turn the district’s challenges into opportunities through effective planning and accountability.
