Marking the month of Victory Day, Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised an art competition in the island district of Bhola to inspire children with the spirit of the Liberation War and the values of patriotism.
The drawing competition was held on Thursday (18 Dec) in Bhola Sadar, where participating children attempted to portray historic moments of Bangladesh’s struggle for independence through their artwork.
Students from various schools took part in the competition, depicting themes such as Victory Day, the Liberation War, the independence movement, and Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.
The artworks reflected patriotism, freedom, the glorious moments of the Liberation War, and the nation’s collective consciousness.
The chief guest at the event was Mohammad Tanzilur Rahman, agriculture officer and adviser of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Bhola Sadar Upazila unit.
Among others present were Bashundhara Shuvosangho Bhola District President Mohammad Shafayat Hossain (Siam), Vice President Mir Abid Hossain Rafi, Bhola Sadar Upazila unit President Mohammad Jihad, General Secretary Nur Fatema, along with members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, parents, and local dignitaries.
In the inaugural speeches, speakers said that Bashundhara Shuvosangho has long been working to introduce children to the history of the great Liberation War and to foster patriotism, humanity, and creative thinking among them.
Bhola District President Mohammad Shafayat Hossain (Siam) said the art competition was organised to commemorate the significance of Victory Day and the history of the independence movement, particularly to instill patriotism among children.
“Through participation in such competitions, children not only express their artistic talent but also develop a deeper sense of love for the country,” he added.
Vice President Mir Abid Hossain Rafi said many children of the current generation learn about the Liberation War only through textbooks and often lack the opportunity to truly feel its essence.
“Creative activities like drawing help them connect emotionally with history and express their thoughts through art. Such initiatives also play an important role in mental development and the formation of moral values,” he said.
Bhola Sadar Upazila unit President Mohammad Jihad said art competitions are an important medium for developing children’s creativity, allowing them to express their emotions and ideas freely.
He added that Bashundhara Shuvosangho has been working for years in education, social service, humanitarian activities, and the mental and moral development of children and adolescents.
In the competition, in Group A, Sumaiya Akter secured first place, Megha came second, and Ashraful Islam finished third. In Group B, Taskin Ahmed won first place, followed by Fariha Akter in second place and Tripti Akter in third.
Prizes were distributed among the winners at the end of the event. In addition, all participants received special gifts from Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Members of the organisation said that more large-scale programmes involving children and youth will be undertaken in the future to further highlight the spirit and historical significance of Victory Day.
Participating children expressed their gratitude to Bashundhara Shuvosangho for organizing the art competition, while guardians described the initiative by the Bhola Sadar Upazila unit as a commendable effort to instill respect for independence and spread the spirit of the Liberation War among the new generation.
