With a view to making disadvantaged and underprivileged women self-reliant, Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Manirampur and Keshabpur upazila units distributed sewing machines among 40 women after completing a three-month tailoring training programme.
The distribution programme was held on Saturday morning at the auditorium of Manirampur Fazil Madrasa.
The event was chaired by SM Hafizur Rahman, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Manirampur upazila unit, and conducted by Mohammad Babul Akter, Manirampur upazila correspondent of Kaler Kantho.
Manirampur Upazila Social Services Officer Md Alamgir Hossain attended the programme as the chief guest.
He said empowering women with skills brings sustainable change to families and society, adding that Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s initiative deserves appreciation.
Among others, Manirampur Upazila Women Affairs Officer Mousumi Akter, Manirampur Press Club President SM Majnur Rahman, General Secretary Motahar Hossain Dustu, Professor Md Muhibullah, president of Manirampur Fazil Madrasa and general secretary of the Public Library, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Keshabpur President Shafi Khondoker, General Secretary Asim Kumar Ghosh, Manirampur unit General Secretary Abdur Rahman Akash, tailoring trainer Mehezabin Rita, Kaler Kantho Keshabpur upazila correspondent Nurul Islam Khan, central leaders of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and local officials spoke at the programme.
Speakers said sewing machines are not merely tools but symbols of women’s dreams, dignity and journeys towards self-reliance. At the end of the event, sewing machines were formally handed over to the trained women.
Addressing the programme, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman said Bashundhara Group has long been working in humanitarian and social sectors, including women’s development, educational scholarships and housing for the homeless.
He added that empowering women economically is an integral part of these continued efforts.
