Keeping the slogan “With Everyone, For Every Good Deed” in mind, a human chain and an awareness meeting were held in Nilphamari on Saturday to raise public awareness aimed at curbing road accidents.

The Nilphamari district unit Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised the programme in front of Samir Uddin School and College in the town.

Azaharul Islam Raja, president of Nilphamari district unit Shuvosangho, presided over the programme, where its advisers Mesbahul Haq and Abdur Rashid Shah, vice-presidents Basudeb Roy, Kashfia Nahrin, and Shah Md Abu Muktadir, and Event Secretary Umaira Kaderi Linka delivered their speeches. Shuvosangho’s Nilphamari unit General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Jibon moderated the event.

Mesbahul Haq said road accidents have now become a major social problem, and most accidents are caused by reckless driving, violation of traffic rules, and a lack of awareness among pedestrians.

“If everyone acts responsibly from their respective positions, the number of accidents can be significantly reduced.”

He urged both drivers and pedestrians to strictly follow traffic rules.

Kashfia Nahrin said excessive speed, overtaking, and failure to use helmets and seat belts are also among the major causes of road accidents.

To raise awareness—especially among young people—families, educational institutions, and social organisations must work together in a coordinated manner, she added.

Umaira Kaderi said that the number of road accidents in Nilphamari has increased at an alarming rate in recent times. “Every day, one family or another is affected by accidents. In this situation, everyone needs to be more cautious.”

Mehedi Hasan said that ensuring road safety is not only the responsibility of the state but also of citizens. “From a sense of social responsibility, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has been regularly conducting public awareness programmes and will continue such initiatives in the future,” he said.

Azaharul Islam said many young lives are being lost prematurely in road accidents, which is unacceptable under any circumstances.

“This procession of deaths can only be stopped through awareness, discipline, and proper enforcement of the law.”

He called on everyone to work together to build safer roads.

Shuvosangho’s Nilphamari unit Vice-President Girendranath Roy, joint general secretaries Md Nayem Shah and Golam Rabbi, Organising Secretary Dipu Roy, Publicity Secretary Labu Islam Hridoy, Finance Secretary Saju Islam, and other members attended the event.
