Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Sabujbagh thana unit in Dhaka on Thursday organised a discussion meeting focusing on women’s rights, social dignity and self-reliance in Islam, aiming to raise public awareness on the issue.
During the discussion, speakers highlighted women’s rightful status, responsibilities and contributions to society in the light of Islam and Hadith.
They emphasised that Islam accords women dignity and just rights, which need to be properly understood and implemented. The speakers also underlined the importance of women’s active participation in social and national development while maintaining modesty.
The organisers said Bashundhara Shuvosangho has been working since its inception for social welfare, humanitarian values and, in particular, the establishment of women’s rights. They expressed hope that the initiative would inspire women to become more aware and move towards self-reliance.
The meeting was held under the guidance of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dhaka Metropolitan South coordinator Abdul Hannan Milton. Sabujbagh Thana Unit President Yasin Mia presided over the programme, while Women's Affairs Secretary Firoza Akter oversaw overall management.
Among others present were Bashundhara Shuvosangho Rupganj unit president Md Ehsanul Haque, Sabujbagh thana publicity secretary Sabina Yasmin, ICT affairs secretary Miskat Jahan, general secretary Ashik, organising secretary Yashir, reading circle affairs secretary Ismail, social welfare secretary Sumaiya Akter Sathi, and members Raisa, Ashraful, Morsheda Begum, Nusrat Jahan Ansari, Fayeza Begum, Nurunnahar, Renu Akter, Tamim and many others.
The speakers said women, if equipped with proper knowledge, morality and opportunities, can make significant contributions to national and social development. They expressed optimism that women would achieve greater success on the global stage in the days ahead.
