Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Dhamoirhat upazila unit in Naogaon inaugurated a three-month sewing training programme on Friday to empower local women through skill development.
The programme was launched at South Chokjadu village under Dhamoirhat municipality.
Mohammad Anwarul Islam Mondal, General Secretary of Dhamoirhat municipal BNP and distributor of Bashundhara LP Gas and Bashundhara Cement, inaugurated the event.
Other notable attendees included Dhamoirhat Upazila BNP Vice-President and former municipal councillor Md Rezaul Karim Musa, Dhamoirhat Municipal BNP Co-Organising Secretary Md Abdul Alim Golden, Ward No. 7 President Md Isha Mondal, Joint Secretary of Dhamoirhat Bazar Merchants’ Association Md Sakhawat Hossain Sagar, BNP Information and Research Secretary Md Benu Amin, assistant teacher of Dhamoirhat Model Government Primary School Raziya Sultana, Assistant Health Inspector of Upazila Health Complex Rehima Jesmin, training centre instructor Monjuara, and women entrepreneur Fatema Khanum Rina.
One of the trainees, Protima Rani, said, “My husband passed away from illness nearly eight years ago. Struggling with two children, I am living with my sister’s family. Receiving sewing machine training and a sewing machine from Bashundhara Shuvosangho will help me earn a living by sewing clothes. I will always be grateful to Bashundhara Shuvosangho.”
Widow Dipa Agarwal added, “After losing my husband, I am struggling to support my three daughters. This sewing training will help me make garments and become self-reliant.”
Speaking as the chief guest, Dhamoirhat municipal BNP President Mohammad Anwarul Islam Mondal praised the initiative, saying, “Training these underprivileged women is commendable. With proper training, they will be able to earn a livelihood through sewing and become self-reliant. Including poor and helpless women in such training programmes will play a crucial role in their socio-economic development.”
