Bashundhara Shuvosangho has organised an anti-drug rally in Ramgati, Lakshmipur, to raise awareness among students and youth about the dangers of drug abuse.
The event was held on Thursday (11 Dec) at Bani-Bhabani Kameshwari Pilot Model High School in Ramgati Bazar, with participation from teachers, students and local residents.
Attendees pledged to say “no” to drugs.
The rally was presided over by Sarowar Miron, president of the Ramgati Upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, and moderated by its general secretary, Golam Rabbani.
The chief guest at the programme was the organisation’s adviser and head teacher of the school, Abdus Kuddus.
Assistant teachers Ataur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Montu Chandra Dey and Ishtiaq Uddin Meheraj were also present.
Among others in attendance were Organising Secretary Abu Sayeed, Joint Organising Secretary Zobayer Uddin, Women Affairs Secretary Tamanna Begum, Event Secretary Shuvo Saha, Work and Planning Secretary Ashiqur Rahman Jipu, Publicity Secretary Miraz Uddin Kalam, Literature and Culture Secretary Abdul Bashit, Health and Human Resources Secretary Lamiyamin Shraban, Sports Secretary Farhana Begum, Information and Technology Secretary Shakil Uddin, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Md Riaz, Education and Study Circle Secretary Rahima Akter, Disaster Management Secretary Md Faruk, Social Welfare Secretary Md Akbar Hossain, and executive members Oli Ahmad, Laily Akter and Sumaiya Akter.
Speakers at the rally said Bangladesh is progressing steadily in global development, and to accelerate this advancement, the talent and energy of students and youth must be harnessed.
For this, building a drug-free society is essential. They urged students to focus on their studies, remain free from drugs and raise awareness to prevent others from falling into addiction.
They also stressed that alongside a strong social movement against drugs, close supervision by teachers and strict monitoring by parents are crucial.
If students and young people remain drug-free, they will become a valuable asset to the country, contributing to sustainable national development.
At the end of the programme, students took an oath to say no to drugs.
