Once pedal rickshaws were a reliable means of earning, but those days have changed. Today, rickshaw-pullers who rely on traditional pedal rickshaws struggle to make ends meet, and any expense beyond basic household needs is often impossible.
In such circumstances, the Narayanganj district committee of Bashundhara Shuvosangho has brought joy to one such helpless family by providing warm clothing to help them face the winter.
On Thursday morning, committee members visited the Missionpara area of the city and handed over winter essentials to a local pedal rickshaw-puller, his wife, and their daughter.
The family received shawls, blankets, and jackets as gifts.
Expressing gratitude, rickshaw-puller Md Hasan said, “I have been driving a rickshaw in Narayanganj city for 25 years. Since mine is a pedal rickshaw, fewer passengers choose it now. With my small income, I couldn’t afford blankets or winter clothes. Bashundhara Shuvosangho, standing beside us has greatly benefited my whole family. I pray for Bashundhara Company.”
Alinur Sharif Shamim, religious affairs secretary of the Narayanganj district committee, said they always try to stand by people in need.
“Through Bashundhara Shuvosangho, we will continue such humanitarian activities in the future.”
General Secretary of the district committee, Advocate Kazi Mamun, said they were happy and proud to distribute winter clothing to a needy family again this year as part of their annual initiative.
Committee President Advocate MSA Monir added, “We feel blessed to be able to provide winter essentials to an entire family. I urge everyone to support others according to their ability.”
Among those present were Sharif Sumon, Narayanganj correspondent of News24; Mobashwir Shraban, Narayanganj correspondent of Bangladesh Pratidin; Rashedul Islam Raju, Narayanganj correspondent of Kaler Kantho; as well as committee Vice-President Kamal Hossain Kalim, Organising Secretary Mehedi Monjur Bokul, Joint General Secretary Deep Bappy, Publicity Secretary Russell Chowdhury, and journalists Mehedi Hasan Sajib, Mamun Abdullah, Fuad Hasan, among others.
