Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s newly formed Dhanmondi unit organised a gathering, discussion session and anti-drug oath-taking event at the Government Teachers’ Training College in Dhanmondi on Tuesday (9 December) afternoon, with a pledge to build a drug-free society.
New members, advisers and leaders of the organisation attended the programme.
The event began with an introduction session, followed by an elaborate discussion on social responsibility, the positive role of youths and the organisation’s zero-tolerance stance against drugs.
The session was conducted by Abdul Hannan Milton, coordinator of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Dhaka Metropolitan unit, and chaired by Dhanmondi unit president Md Darul Naeem Hossain.
The highlight of the programme was the anti-drug oath-taking ceremony, administered by noted businessman and unit adviser Shah Nasir Uddin.
Addressing the event, Nasir Uddin said, “Drugs destroy families, communities and entire generations. The youth’s commitment will serve as a powerful step towards building a drug-free society.”
Adviser Md Mehedul Islam said Shuvosangho’s initiative would help guide the youth towards the right path.
President Md Darul Naeem Hossain said the unit would regularly undertake awareness campaigns and social initiatives.
General Secretary Ramzan Ali said their primary goal is to spread a mindset of saying ‘no’ to drugs.
Others present included vice-president Md Sulaiman Hawlader; finance secretary Ashia Nisho; joint general secretary Mir Asiful Islam; organisational secretary Delowara Banu Shanu; assistant organisational secretary Jannatul Naeem Nila; office secretary Mahabul Mridha; relief and rehabilitation secretary Shiuli Sultana; education and study circle secretary Kamal Hossain; social welfare secretary Rubaiya Rahman; women affairs secretary Pritha Bhowmik; and publicity secretary Jummana Akter Amira, among other members.
