In a heartwarming display of compassion, the Ananda Mohan College branch of Bashundhara Shuvosangho came to the aid of Dulal Mia, a homeless man struggling to survive on the city streets amid the biting winter cold.
On a dark night, Dulal Mia was found lying on torn pieces of paper on the roadside, accompanied by a few stray dogs, illustrating both the harsh realities of his life and the inseparable bond between humans and animals.
To support him, the organisation provided essential items, including a quality sleeping bag, a comfortable pillow, a cane mat, warm clothing, and nutritious food such as biscuits, oranges, grapes, dates, and bananas. The dogs accompanying Dulal Mia also received special care, making the initiative truly exceptional and unprecedented.
The event, held on Wednesday evening (3 December), was attended by special guests including Ziaul Haque Mohammad Jewel, advisor of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Ananda Mohan College unit, Syed Shafiul Alam, and Nizam Uddin Sourav.
Ziaul Haque Mohammad Jewel described the initiative as “heartwarming and unique” and said, “I am delighted to participate in this noble work. Supporting Bashundhara Shuvosangho fills me with pride. I pledge to stand with them in every future social welfare activity.”
Nafiul Hasan Mubin, president of the organisation, said, “One night while walking, I saw Dulal Mia sleeping on bricks with paper and plastic laid underneath. Seeing this, I felt deeply saddened and immediately informed other members of the organisation. We quickly procured the necessary items and delivered them directly to Dulal Mia. We even showed him how to use the sleeping bag to stay comfortable. His smile was the reward for our effort.”
Other participants included Organisational Secretary Animur Rahman Riyad, Publicity Secretary Anitur Rahman Sadi, Religious Affairs Secretary Shah Alam Jibon, members Ratan Mia, Swapnil, and other Shuvosangho members.
Organisers expressed hope that such acts of humanity would inspire similar efforts across communities, spreading the light of compassion to every corner of society.
