Bashundhara Shuvosangho members formed a human chain in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh on Thursday, demanding adequate road safety measures across the country.
The organisers demanded urgent steps to ensure safe roads as the roads and streets in the country are becoming increasingly deadly. Untrained drivers, unfit vehicles, cracked road surfaces, and weak enforcement of safety measures are the primary reasons behind rising road crashes and accidents, they said.
Tofazzal Hossain, vice president at Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gouripur upazila unit, demanded the government prevent deadly road crashes. Policymakers must ensure that no mother loses her children to road crashes anymore, he said.
Harun Mia, general secretary at the upazila unit, said all three roads leading to Gouripur upazila are in a dire state. He urged the “Local Government Engineering Department” and the upazila administration to take urgent steps to repair the roads and implement other road safety measures.
