Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a literary adda with female students at Zohur Chan Bibi Mohila College in Shayestaganj upazila of Habiganj on Thursday morning.
The discussion took place at 11am in the MA Shahid Library Auditorium of the Bir Muktijoddha Muhammad Abdul Kabir Building.
The session was conducted by Md Shaheen Mia, adviser to the college unit and lecturer in the Bangla department, while assistant teacher (library) Imranul Haque Shakil supervised the event.
The adda featured theme-based discussions aimed at enhancing students’ understanding and interest in literature, books, authors and different literary genres.
College Principal Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun delivered the welcome speech. He said, “Literature enriches the human mind. Such addas are highly important to inspire the young generation to develop reading habits.”
A special segment highlighted the life and work of late Principal Mohammad Siraj Haque — a noted writer, cultural figure, sibling of the college founder Bir Muktijoddha Muhammad Abdul Kabir, and founding leader of the Habiganj Sahitya Parishad. His contribution to local literary movements, cultural activities and publication initiatives was recalled.
Siraj Haque authored 22 books, including works on regional dialects of Habiganj, proverbs, “gadhar promotion”, personal reflections and historical methods.
Organisers said his writings continue to inspire young readers and encourage humane thinking and social awareness.
Acting general secretary of the college unit Shuvosangho, Sadia Akhi Swarna, said, “Literature is not just entertainment — it teaches people to become humane and thoughtful. We want every student in our college to cultivate the habit of reading. Bashundhara Shuvosangho will always work for students’ creative development.”
Members including Sadia Akhi Swarna, Umme Habiba, Ruma Akter, Sanjida Din Sara, Kaniz Fatema Anika, Sheikh Ishrat Jahan Mim, Farzana Akter Tuli and students from different classes took part in the adda.
