Bashundhara Shuvosangho Gangni upazila unit has distributed brushes, polish, essential shoe-repair tools and an umbrella among cobblers at Gangni and Bamundi markets.
Carrying forward its humanitarian mission under the motto “In good deeds, beside everyone,” the organisation has extended support to the marginalised cobbler community in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district.
Eight cobblers received work tools, while one individual was gifted an umbrella.
Expressing gratitude, the beneficiaries said they had long been struggling with worn-out tools, which affected the quality of their work and earnings. The new supplies, they said, would help them work more efficiently and boost their income, bringing financial relief to their families.
Amit Das, a local cobbler shared an emotional reflection. He said, “I have been doing this work since I was very young, but I did not bring my son into this trade.
“Even with hardship, I am ensuring his education so he does not have to be called a ‘muchi’ (cobbler). We may be the last generation in this profession.”
The distribution event was attended by Bashundhara Shuvosangho Gangni unit President Raju Ahmed Boni, Vice-President Mahfuzur Rahman, Joint Secretary and Journalist Tarikul Islam, Organisational Secretary Khairul Bashar and Office Secretary and journalist Zulfiqar Abir.
Social activists Rowshan Mahmud, AR Tushar and Moniruzzaman Monir were present as special guests.
Boni said, “We are trying to stand beside hard-working, neglected working-class people. Their labor ensures our comfort in daily life — this is a small effort to show gratitude and respect.”
Locals observed that the initiative represents more than just material support — it recognises the dignity and contribution of laborers, setting a positive example for social inclusion and appreciation.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho, the social welfare wing of Bashundhara Group, continues to run education, healthcare, environmental protection, employment and humanitarian programs across Bangladesh. The support for cobblers in Gangni is part of its ongoing efforts to uplift underprivileged communities.
Residents expressed hope that such initiatives will continue and help bring meaningful change to the lives of marginalised people in the future.
