The Bashundhara Shuvosangho Kamalnagar Upazila unit of Lakshmipur organised an anti-drug discussion and tree plantation program on Sunday to raise awareness against drugs and highlight the importance of tree plantation to combat global warming.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Kamalnagar Upazila President MA Majid presided over the event and General Secretary and Kalerkantho's Ramgati-Kamalnagar upazila correspondent Amanat Ulya conducted the meeting.
The organisation's advisor and Headmaster of Char Basu Model High School Mizanur Rahman Manik, Principal of Fajumiarhat High School and College Abdush Shahid, Lecturer of Hazirhat Upakul Government College Belal Hossain Jewel, Convener of Kamalnagar Press Club Musakalimullah, Shahriar Kamal, MA Ehsan Riaz, Master Al Amin, Zahir Uddin, and Shahadat Suman, among others, addressed the meeting.
Speakers said drugs are a devastating addiction that affects millions of people in the country, especially the youth. They warned that the youth are becoming endangered by the grip of drugs, which destroy lives and futures.
The speakers urged building a drug-free nation is essential to protect the student community and the young generation.
The speakers pointed out drugs rob the chance of having a meaningful life and drug abuse abruptly ends promising lives and careers.
They called on families and communities to raise awareness of the destructive effects of drugs and urged teachers and the administration to work jointly to strengthen the social movement against drug abuse.
The meeting also decided to make the activities of Bashundhara Shuvosangho more dynamic in upcoming days to raise public awareness against drugs.
Later, members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho planted trees to raise awareness of environmental protection.
Upazila unit president MA Majid and adviser Mizanur Rahman Manik said Bashundhara Shuvosangho has long been conducting social and educational activities, including tree plantation across the country.
They described this initiative as highly commendable for protecting environmental balance.
They added the programme would not only increase awareness of environmental conservation but also inspire the young generation to develop a love for trees.
They also drew attention to the need for stipends for students in the river-eroded coastal areas of Kamalnagar upazila and sewing machine training for poor and helpless women.
