“Haribhanga”, a traditional game where clay pots are broken by participants blindfolded, has been organised at the Biharpur Government Primary School ground in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat.
On Saturday, the schoolyard came alive with the festive participation of students in the game organised by the Akkelpur upazila unit Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Blindfolded and holding sticks, the participants attempted to break the clay pots, bringing laughter and joy to parents, teachers, and students alike.
Upazila primary education officer Siddiqur Rahman was present as the chief guest, while Shuvosangho’s Akkelpur unit President Moudud Ahmed presided over the event, moderated by its General Secretary Shadman Hafiz Shuvo.
Siddiqur Rahman said, “Haribhanga is an important part of our rural heritage. Traditional games, like this one, need to be preserved despite the rise of modern entertainment.”
Moudud Ahmed said, “Shuvosangho has been organising such recreational and creative activities regularly to promote children’s mental growth and enhance social bonding. These activities will continue in future as well.”
Participating students said such activities alongside their studies bring them immense joy. They hoped that these kinds of games would be held regularly.
Prizes were awarded to the winners of the game by Bashundhara Shuvosangho. Besides, every student of the school received a special prize.
