Bashundhara Shuvosangho Donia College Branch has organised a vibrant football match in a bid to keep the youth away from terrorism, drugs and antisocial activities.
The football match kicked off on Thursday at Sky Turf, a rooftop ground adjacent to Donia College in Dhaka’s Jatrabari, with the aim of guiding the young generation toward a healthy and meaningful life.
There is no alternative to sports in keeping the youth away from terrorism, drugs and antisocial activities, and guiding them toward a healthy and meaningful life, said the organiser.
Aimed at encouraging youth participation in sports and raising social awareness, the match infused fresh enthusiasm among the young generation.
The students of Donia College, along with members of Shuvosangho, a voluntary platform of Bashundhara Group, actively took part in the game.
The event was jointly supervised by Zuela Zebunnesa Khan, principal of the college and chief advisor of the unit and Tanzila Rahat, associate prof of the college and advisor of the philanthropic organisation.
Special guests included Donia College Assistant Prof Tahera Akhter and Sports Teacher Ziaul Ahsan, who handed over prizes and the trophy to the winning team at the end of the football match.
In addition, Abdul Hannan Milton, coordinator of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dhaka South Metropolitan and president of the Jatrabari Thana unit, provided overall guidance to ensure the programme was conducted smoothly and peacefully.
The match was conducted by Faruk Sarkar, president of Donia College Branch, with the leadership support of Shuvosangho General Secretary Raihan Uddin.
Also present at the event were Vice President Tithi, Sports Secretary Rabbi, members Shihab, Anwar, Habib, along with many others from the organisation.
Speakers in their remarks highlighted that sports play a vital role in the physical and mental development of young people.
Sports not only keep the body and mind healthy but also help the younger generation stay away from terrorism, drugs and antisocial activities.
They further emphasised that through regular practice of sports, it is possible to build a healthy, educated and creative generation.
At the end of the programme, prizes were distributed among the participants in a joyous environment.
Young students urged for such initiatives to be held regularly and regarded sports as one of the most effective tools in the fight against terrorism and drugs.
