The Ruma Upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho has embarked on a new journey by distributing educational materials and organising a cleanliness campaign at Ruma Deb Buddhist Monastery.
The event was held on Sunday for 15 resident students of the monastery.
The day-long programme was carried out in the presence of Upazila Shuvosangho President Aungsahla Marma, General Secretary Wangsainu Marma, Organising Secretary Wangpru Marma, and other leaders of the organisation.
The chief guest at the event was U: Chaindara Mahathera, principal of the Ruma Deb Buddhist Monastery.
In his welcome address, he expressed his goodwill and best wishes to Bashundhara Shuvosangho and the people of Ruma Upazila.
He said, “This residential institution is being run under great hardship. Therefore, it is essential for supportive members of society to come forward.”
Highlighting broader socio-economic issues, U: Chaindara Mahathera said that Bangladesh has a high population density, and most people have low incomes.
“Indigenous communities in the hill tracts are part of this low-income group but remain an integral part of the country,” he said.
He emphasised the need to transform these communities into productive human resources through education and technical training.
The Buddhist leader urged initiatives to provide weaving and other income-generating training programmes for girls, as well as IT-based education for youth to prepare them for a technology-driven future.
He added that organisations like Bashundhara Shuvosangho could play a vital role in spreading education in the hill regions, enabling young people to keep pace with the modern world.
As part of the day-long programme, a cleanliness drive was conducted in and around the monastery premises to raise awareness about environmental hygiene.
The residential students expressed delight upon receiving educational materials.
The event concluded in a joyous atmosphere, marking the successful completion of the education material distribution and cleanliness campaign.
