The Jatrabari unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho held a vibrant literary gathering of book, poetry, and literature enthusiasts on Saturday afternoon.
Presided over by Abdul Hannan Milton, coordinator of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Dhaka South unit and President of the Jatrabari unit, the event turned into a lively get-together for the young generation.
Special guest Md Ainul Rahman, lecturer of the Bangla Department at CCER Model College, attended the event alongside unit Vice President Sadia Tabassum, General Secretary Suman Mia, Organising Secretary Samrat, Literary Affairs Secretary Yamin, and other Shuvosangho members.
Speaking on the importance of literature, Ainul Rahman said, “Literature nurtures human intellect and consciousness. The younger generation must develop the habit of reading books — only then will society see positive change.”
Participants engaged in discussions on various aspects of Bangla literature, highlighting the works of Jibanananda Das, Selina Hossain, Humayun Ahmed, and Jasim Uddin.
Excerpts from Jibanananda Das’ Ruposhi Bangla and Humayun Ahmed’s Nondito Noroke were cited to demonstrate literature’s relevance to contemporary social realities.
Young poets and writers also presented their own compositions, captivating the audience, who responded with enthusiastic applause.
Speakers noted that literature raises awareness, inspires resistance to injustice, and empowers people to transform society.
The event concluded with a pledge from Bashundhara Shuvosangho to hold regular literary readings, book discussions, and literary gatherings in the future.
