In Amtali upazila of Barguna district, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has brought new hope to the life of a physically challenged, struggling shopkeeper.
With the organisation’s humanitarian support, Shankar — a shopkeeper facing years of hardship — has been given the opportunity to restart his business.
On Friday afternoon, the Amtali upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho provided Shankar’s shop with a variety of essential goods, enabling him to restock and refurbish his small store.
Shankar, a resident of Boithakatha in Ward-1 of Amtali municipality, has been struggling for years to support his family of eight.
Lacking the resources to keep his store stocked, his business nearly collapsed, leaving him at one point with only a few packets of biscuits to sell.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Shankar said, “Running a family in poverty was extremely difficult. I used to sit in my shop with nothing but a few biscuits. Today, thanks to Bashundhara Shuvosangho, I can start my business again. This assistance is a blessing in my life, and I am deeply grateful.”
Joseph Mahtab, vice-president of the Amtali upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, said, “Bashundhara Shuvosangho doesn’t just provide financial aid — it works to stand beside helpless people and give them the strength to start anew. Our branch is always ready to support the poor and underprivileged in the area, and such humanitarian efforts will continue in the future.”
The aid distribution event was attended by Joseph Mahtab, Adviser Md Al-Amin Babu, Literary Secretary Gazi Nasir, Executive Members Ripon Munshi, Kamrul Hasan Saimon, Fakhruddin Tahsin, Touhidul Islam, and other leaders of the organisation.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, calling it an exemplary act of social responsibility.
They said that by supporting a struggling shopkeeper, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has sent a powerful message of positive change — uplifting not only one family, but inspiring the entire community.
