Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed saplings to more than 50 students at Pilot Girls High School in Gauripur, Mymensingh on Tuesday in a bid to raise environmental awareness among young learners. The initiative was held under the slogan: "To build a green Bangladesh, let's plant trees and save the environment."
The event was presided over by Obaidur Rahman, a senior member of Shuvosangho, and conducted by the school’s Assistant Headmaster, Habibur Rahman. Poet and writer Zobayer Hasan Sarker attended as the chief guest, while Harun Mia, General Secretary of the Gauripur Upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, delivered a special speech.
Highlighting the importance of environmental responsibility, poet Zobair Hasan Sarker said, “We cut down trees, but often forget to plant new ones. Nature is being damaged in many ways in our country. That’s why organizations like Shuvosangho are essential. I’m proud to be associated with them. The saplings I distributed today came from the profits of my first book of poetry.”
The school’s Headmaster, Shafiqul Islam, praised the organization for its continued support, “Gauripur’s Shuvosangho has already conducted awareness programs against child marriage in our school. Their initiatives have made a real impact, and we hope they continue their good work.”
Shuvosangho General Secretary Harun Mia added, “There was a time when gifting tree saplings was a meaningful tradition. We want to revive that. I encourage students to give saplings to their loved ones and help us green Gauripur.”
Also present at the event were poet Selim Al Raj, General Secretary of Jugantor Swajan Sabha, Rasel Jamadar, the school’s Assistant Accountant, along with other Shuvosangho members and students.
