The Netrokona district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho has delivered 15 days’ worth of food aid to Shamsunnahar, a destitute woman from the West Nagora area of Netrokona municipality.
Shamsunnahar, who has no parents or siblings, has been bedridden for a long time due to illness and is living in extreme hardship.
Learning about her plight, Bashundhara Shuvosangho stepped in to provide assistance, which included 15kg rice, 5kg potatoes, 1 litre soybean oil, 2kg onions, 1kg puffed rice, 1kg flattened rice, 1kg sugar, 1kg chickpeas, a packet of vermicelli, 1kg lentils, a bottle of mustard oil, soap, and other essentials.
The aid was handed over in the presence of Shuvosangho Adviser Shahriar Rahman Saeed, Executive Member Rashedul Islam Jewel, President Abdur Rahman, Organisational Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Alam Tony, Assistant Organisational Secretary Md Naeem Hasan, and members Piyas, Joy, Suman, Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, Fahim, Saif, Rabbi, Salim, among others.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Shamsunnahar said, “I thought no one would ever reach out to me again. But Bashundhara Shuvosangho stood beside me and gave me new strength to live. I am forever grateful to them.”
Netrokona unit President Abdur Rahman said, “Our main goal is to stand by people in need. We are always working to bring smiles to helpless faces.”
Adviser Shahriar Rahman Saeed added, “Such humanitarian activities will continue in the future. It is our duty to support every helpless person in society.”
The noble initiative by Bashundhara Shuvosangho drew praise from locals, who expressed hope that other organisations would come forward in a similar way to help those in distress.
