Bashundhara Shuvosangho organized an insightful discussion on "Weather-Climate Change and What to Do" at Ulipur Press Club on Monday afternoon. The meeting saw the participation of environmentally conscious students, teachers, journalists, and well-wishers.
The discussion was moderated by Rokanuzzaman Manu, regional representative of Kaler Kantho and general secretary of the Ulipur branch of Bashundhara Shuvosangho. Golam Mustafa, former advisor of the Ulipur branch and a freedom fighter, was the chief guest.
The event was presided over by Uttam Kumar Sen Laxman Gupta, General Secretary of Ulipur Press Club and representative of Dainik Jugantar in Ulipur, with Rajesh Dey, regional coordinator of The Hunger Project, as the main discussant. Senior journalists from Ulipur Press Club, including Nurbakta Mia, Nuruzzaman Sarkar, and Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Kurigram district branch member Rashedul Anam Apu, delivered speeches.
In his address, Golam Mustafa emphasized that climate change has severely impacted Kurigram, particularly affecting the river systems. He noted that rivers no longer carry water even during the monsoon season and that biodiversity is increasingly threatened. He called on citizens to become more aware of climate issues in their local communities and urged the younger generation to prioritize environmental protection.
Uttam Kumar Sen Laxman Gupta, in his closing remarks, praised Bashundhara Shuvosangho for its humanitarian and social efforts. The organization plays a vital role in promoting patriotism, social service, and environmental protection. Its initiatives include distributing relief in flood-affected areas, providing winter clothing, planting trees, and donating blood. He expressed hope that these efforts would inspire similar actions nationwide for the betterment of the country.
Teacher Kamal Hossain, students Mehidi Hasan, Nasima Khatun, journalists Abul Kalam, Shimul Dev, Khalek Parvez Lalu, rural doctor Saheb Ali, and others were also present at the event, showing their support for the cause.
