Bashundhara Shuvosangho has launched a tree plantation campaign in Jamalpur to raise awareness about environmental conservation and promote greenery in urban areas.
The programme began around 11am on Friday with the planting of Krishnachura (royal poinciana) saplings along the new bypass road near Fauzdari Mor in the town.
The event was presided over by Jasim Uddin Zowardar, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho's Jamalpur district unit, while general secretary Jakaria conducted the session.
Among others, Shuvosangho adviser and lawyer Yusuf Ali, SHUJAN Vice-President and Shuvosangho adviser AKM Ashrafuzzaman Swadhin, Bangladesh Pratidin Jamalpur correspondent Shubhra Mehedi, Kaler Kantho district correspondent Rakib Hasan Nayan, and committee member Yasir Arafat spoke at the event.
Also present were the unit’s vice presidents, Likhan Sheikh and Sakif Bhuiyan Kaushik; joint general secretaries Pronoy and Humayun Kabir; organising secretary Umar Faruq; joint organising secretary Mahmudul Hasan Khan; publicity secretary Manik; members Rifat Jannat Rimi, Fimu, and Miraj Hossain; women affairs secretary Sumaiya Akter; hospitality secretary Asif Mia; and cultural secretary Md Naim.
Speakers praised Shuvosangho’s continuous efforts to plant trees in schools, religious institutions, and public spaces across the country. They said such initiatives are vital for restoring ecological balance and building environmental awareness.
They also expressed hope that this campaign would inspire the younger generation to develop a deeper connection with nature and contribute to a greener future.
