‘The Sabarmati Report’, starring Vikrant Massey and directed by Dheeraj Sarna, saw a modest increase in its box office earnings on its second day of release. The film, which was the only major Bollywood release this week, earned Rs 2 crore on Saturday, up from Rs 1.25 crore on Friday. Friday's collection marked the biggest opening for Vikrant Massey as a lead actor.
For context, Massey's previous film ‘12th Fail’, which released last year, had a similar opening with Rs 1.1 crore on its first day. However, ‘12th Fail’ saw a more substantial jump on its second day, earning Rs 2.51 crore—significantly higher than ‘The Sabarmati Report's’ Day 2 earnings.
Despite the growth, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ still faces an uphill battle at the box office, with comparisons being drawn to its competitor's stronger performance. The film’s day-to-day growth shows promise, but it remains to be seen whether it can sustain the momentum in the coming days.
Produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures, alongside Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ is inspired by the real-life events surrounding the tragic burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra. The film delves into the complex and sensitive aftermath of the incident, exploring its social and political ramifications.
The trailer for ‘The Sabarmati Report’ highlights the ideological divide between Hindi-speaking, grassroots journalists and their English-speaking, Western-influenced counterparts. This division forms a central theme in the film, which examines the political climate and media coverage surrounding the tragic Sabarmati Express incident.
In addition to Vikrant Massey, the film also features Ridhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna in pivotal roles, adding depth to the narrative's exploration of media dynamics and social issues.
