The 7th death anniversary of noted litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq is being observed today (Wednesday).
Marking the day, different cultural organisations have chalked out various programmes, including discussion, cultural performances and online events.
Born on December 27 in 1935 in Kurigram, Syed Shamsul Haq was a poet, lyricist and writer of the country.
He penned several collections of poems, including ‘Baishekhe Rachita Panktimala’, ‘Protidhonigon’, and ‘Poraner Gohin Vitor’.
Syed Shamsul Haq was also a very popular novelist. His notable novels are ‘Neel Dangshan’, ‘Stabdhatar Anubad’, ‘Brishti o Bidrohigon’, ‘Nishiddho Loban’, ‘Nirbasita’, ‘Khelaram Khele Ja’.
He also created a new trend in contemporary Bangla drama. He penned popular verse plays such as ‘Payer Awaj Paoa Jay’, ‘Nuruldiner Sara Jiban’, ‘Gononayok’, ‘Irsha’, ‘Narigon’, ‘Banglar Mati Banglar Jal’ and others.
He also wrote a good many songs, including ‘Jar Chaya Poreche Monero Aynate’ and ‘Haire Manush Rongin Fanush’.
Syed Shamsul Haq was married to Anwara Syed Haq.
The writer got many awards, including Bangla Academy Award, Ekushey Padak and Independence Day Award for his contributions to Bengali literature.
He breathed his last on September 27 in 2016.
