Two master tankers carrying a combined 68,000 tonnes of diesel have arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port, strengthening Bangladesh’s fuel supply.
The vessels reached the port on Tuesday night and have anchored offshore. Part of the diesel cargo will be discharged at the outer anchorage, with the remainder to be unloaded at the Dolphin Jetty.
The tanker MT Torm Damini, supplied by Unipac Singapore Pte Ltd, is carrying around 33,000 tonnes of diesel. Another vessel, MT Lucia Solis, supplied by Singapore-based Vittal Asia, has brought approximately 35,000 tonnes.
According to data from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), the country’s daily diesel consumption currently exceeds 11,000 tonnes.
As of April 12, available diesel stock stood at about 119,000 tonnes—enough to meet demand for roughly 10 days. The latest shipments are expected to extend supply coverage by an additional two weeks.
BPC Chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman said several fuel shipments have already arrived, with more scheduled in the coming days.
He added that authorities are sourcing fuel both from contracted suppliers and alternative markets to ensure uninterrupted supply.
“There is no risk of a fuel shortage this month,” he said.
