Hajj flights from Chattogram will begin on April 19, with the first flight scheduled to depart in the afternoon from Shah Amanat International Airport for Jeddah.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft will carry 419 passengers on the inaugural flight.
A total of 16 flights will operate from Chattogram this year--12 to Jeddah and 4 to Madinah.
All flights will be operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Last year, there were 17 flights, so the number has decreased this year.
Al Mamun Faruk, District Manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in Chattogram said, “All preparations for the first flight on April 19 have been completed. Coordination has been made with relevant authorities to ensure smooth boarding, immigration, and baggage handling for passengers.”
“To facilitate Hajj pilgrims, special help desks, additional staff, expedited immigration services, and medical assistance will be available at the airport. Wheelchairs and support staff will also be provided for elderly passengers.”
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has stated that a total of 78,500 pilgrims will travel from Bangladesh for Hajj this year.
Subject to moon sighting, the holy Hajj is expected to take place on May 26.
