Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has welcomed the launching of a new political party "National Citizen Party (NCP)".
"We welcome the new political party. We hope the party will contribute to positive politics in the country," BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council Member Abdus Salam told the Daily Sun on Friday.
He further said they also hoped that the NCP will play a role in establishing democracy in the country the way they played a significant role in last year's July-August mass uprising.
BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, in his Facebook post, said, "I welcome and congratulate the emergence of the National Citizen Party. This party's success is necessary to build a Bangladesh free from Awami fascism and Mujibism."
Earlier, a two-member BNP delegation joined the launching ceremony of the new party formed by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee.
The delegation included BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie.
On Thursday night, on behalf of the NCP, invitations were sent to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and two others to join the event.
