Acne-prone skin can be frustrating, breaking out from anything—new products, seasonal changes, or stress. But instead of just treating the surface, addressing lifestyle habits can make a real difference.
Indian Dermatologist Dr. Rashmi Shetty shared key lifestyle changes to manage acne effectively:
Clean scalp
Oil, sweat, and dirt buildup on the scalp can transfer to the face, clogging pores. Dr. Rashmi advises washing hair every other day to prevent forehead and jawline acne. She debunked the myth that frequent washing causes hair fall, emphasizing that a clean scalp reduces it.
Eat clean
Your diet directly impacts your skin. Dr. Rashmi stressed the gut-skin connection, saying, “If your gut is happy, your skin is happy.” Avoid packaged, processed, high-glycemic, and inflammatory foods to maintain clear skin.
Prioritize sleep
Lack of proper sleep disrupts skin health. Dr. Rashmi warns that catching up on sleep in bits isn't enough—consistent, quality sleep is key. “Six hours at random times won’t work. Sleep on time, wake up on time.”
Reduce stress
Stress not only harms overall health but also triggers acne. Dr. Rashmi highlighted that less stress and more happiness visibly improve skin. The true glow comes from within.
A holistic approach—clean habits, a healthy diet, sufficient sleep, and stress management—can help keep acne at bay.
