"We saw Sheikh Hasina's disrespectful behavior towards you when India had good relations with her. But we respected you."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told this to Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus during their first bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok.
The Chief Advisor's press secretary Shafiqul Alam said this in a Facebook post on Saturday regarding the Yunus-Modi meeting in Bangkok.
The press secretary said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was very respectful towards Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus during the bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok. (In the meeting) Narendra Modi praised Professor Yunus' works. One of the things he said in the meeting was that they saw Sheikh Hasina's disrespectful behavious towards Dr. Yunus when India had good relations with her. But we have respected you.
He also said that Modi was positive even when the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s extradition was raised. Therefore, he (Shafiqul) believes that Hasina will be tried on the land of Bengal.
Shafiqul Alam wrote on Facebook that when Professor Yunus raised the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s extradition, the Indian Prime Minister’s reaction was not negative. We are sure that Hasina will be extradited to Dhaka one day and we will see the best trial of the century.
