A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) on the night of February 28, 2025, near the Brahmanbaria border, in an incident that has sparked concerns over border security. The victim, identified as Al-Amin, 32, from South Putia village in Kasba Upazila, was allegedly roaming beyond the barbed-wire fence on the Putia border.
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confirmed the death, with Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Samiul Islam identifying the deceased. According to reports, BSF personnel, suspecting Al-Amin to be involved in smuggling activities, opened fire on him.
Al-Amin was critically injured and later taken to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in India for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Naik Subedar Abu Bakkar, in charge of BGB’s Saldanadi camp, stated that the BSF initially fired a round of rubber bullets at Al-Amin, before transporting him to a local hospital in India. His body has yet to be returned to Bangladesh.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions and the complex nature of border security between the two countries, especially concerning cross-border smuggling activities.
