Ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat and Paturia-Daulatdia routes in Manikganj have been suspended since early Wednesday due to dense fog, leaving over 400 vehicles stranded at four terminals.
Nasir Chowdhury, deputy general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) in the Aricha region, said the fog intensified around 2 am Wednesday, reducing visibility and obscuring navigation lights, reports UNB.
To prevent accidents, ferry operations on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were suspended at 2 am. A ferry, Shah Ali, remained stuck mid-river while heading to Kazirhat terminal, while four other ferries were halted at both terminals, he said.
Similarly, ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route were suspended from 2:30 am, leaving 12 ferries stranded at both terminals.
Officials said ferry operations would resume once the fog clears.
