Mustofa Kamal Palash, a PhD researcher in Weather and Climate at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, forecasts a cold wave with heavy fog set to begin nationwide from today (January 15).
Palash shares this update on his verified Facebook profile, stating that dense fog re-enters Bangladesh from Wednesday (January 15), with the districts of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions likely to be covered by thick fog after evening.
He further predicts that on Thursday morning (January 16), all districts in Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Mymensingh divisions face a high risk of being enveloped in fog. Notably, it is highly unlikely that sunlight will be visible in these districts before noon.
From Thursday evening, fog is expected to shroud the districts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions. On Friday morning (January 17), dense fog could cover the entire country, with this weather pattern likely to persist for 3 to 5 days.
Meanwhile, meteorologists indicate little chance of significant changes in the cold weather until Friday.
However, temperatures are set to drop starting Saturday, with the cold becoming more pronounced for the next 5 to 6 days.
