Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Baharul Alam reaffirmed the ongoing efforts to free the country's police force from political influence during his address as the chief guest at the closing parade of the 40th Cadet Sub-Inspector (SI)-2023 batch. The parade was held at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarada, Rajshahi, on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
IGP Alam emphasized the critical role of the police in maintaining law and order, protecting public property, and suppressing crime. He informed that the Police Reforms Commission is actively working to transform the force into a neutral institution, free from political bias. "We are determined to restore police morale and ensure effective law enforcement for the benefit of all citizens," he stated.
Addressing the graduating cadets, he urged them to uphold justice and dedication in their work. "As Sub-Inspectors, you are the backbone of criminal investigations, handling 90% of cases. Justice for ordinary citizens relies heavily on your thorough and impartial investigations," he noted. He encouraged the cadets to apply their training diligently to serve society with integrity.
During the ceremony, the IGP also distributed awards to cadets who excelled in various disciplines. Cadet (SI) Badiuzzaman received the award for best academic performance, while Cadet (SI) Md. Nazrul Islam was recognized for excellence in field activities. Cadet (SI) Nayan Kumar Dhali earned accolades as the best shooter and swimmer, and Cadet (SI) Ariful Islam was honored as the best overall cadet.
A total of 480 trainee cadets, including 22 women, participated in the parade, marking the successful completion of their training.
The IGP's address reinforced the vision of a reformed, impartial police force committed to justice, professionalism, and public service in the evolving landscape of Bangladesh.
