The Ministry of Public Administration announced on Sunday that the magisterial powers of Army, Navy, and Air Force officers have been extended for another 60 days, effective from January 14. This marks the second extension.
According to the notification, Army captains and equivalent commissioned officers in the Bangladesh Armed Forces, as well as military officers on deputation in the Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), have been granted special executive magistrate powers throughout the country for a 60-day period.
Under Sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, these officers are empowered as Executive Magistrates.
Previously, on November 16, the government extended the magisterial powers of military officers by 60 days. Initially, Army officers were given these powers on September 17 to control law and order, followed by Navy and Air Force officers on September 30.
