The decision to kill eight bus passengers in Chauddagram Upazila of Cumilla was held at former finance minister A H M Mustafa Kamal’s (Lotus Kamal) Gulshan residence.
Lotus Kamal and former railways minister Mujibul Haque were present at the meeting. After the meeting, they went to Ganabhaban and presented the plan for this murder to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Later, Sheikh Hasina gave orders to RAB and police to implement the killing mission.
BNP chairperson's adviser and former lawmaker Md Monirul Haque Chowdhury made the claim at a press conference at Cumilla Bar Council Bhaban on Tuesday.
Eight passengers of a bus were hurled with petrol bombs and burnt to death in Chauddagram on February 3, 2015, during the hartal and blockade programme by the BNP-led coalition. Monirul came up with the claim after nearly 10 years.
He said local Awami League leaders implemented the sabotage plan by spreading gun power at the bus to implicate the leaders of BNP-Jamaat in the case and to suppress the anti-government movement.
Although my name was not mentioned in the two cases filed by the police in 2015 and in any evidence, my name was later included in the supplementary charge sheet to take political revenge and harassment, Monirul Haque added.
After the fall of the Awami League government, Md Abul Khayer, supervisor of that bus, lodged a case with Cumilla court on September 11 against former railways minister Mujibul Haque, former IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque, former RAB DG Benazir Ahmed, the then police super in Cumilla Tutul Chakrabarty and 126 others.
The case was later recorded with Chauddagram Police Station by the court order.
