Pedal rickshaw pullers issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the authorities concerned to ban battery-run autos on main streets of Dhaka at a rally at Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Monday.
Around 10am, several hundred rickshaw pullers under the Greater Dhaka City Corporation Rickshaw Owners Union, gathered at Shahbagh, blocking the road with their rickshaws to press home their seven-point demands, including the ban on battery-run autorickshaws, reports The Daily Sun.
At this time, they were seen shouting slogans demanding the ban of auto-rickshaws.
As the intersection was completely blocked, the vehicular movement on that road remained suspended. Vehicles were seen going through alternative roads.
General Secretary of Dhaka City Corporation Rickshaw Owners Union Momin Ali said, we have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Adviser on our seven-point demand.
