On Monday, 109 Ansar members were brought before a Dhaka court after being arrested in connection with clashes that erupted on Sunday night near the Secretariat gates. The incidents involved demonstrators and students, reports Daily Sun.
The Ansar members were presented at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka. The arrests were made based on cases filed at Shahbagh, Ramna, and Paltan police stations. A police officer stationed at the court confirmed that the detainees were being held in the court's lockup.
The clashes on Sunday night occurred despite the government's earlier assurances to address the Ansar members' demands. The situation escalated as Ansar members continued their protests, leading to a confrontation with students and other individuals near the Secretariat. The violence left at least 50 people injured.
