A farmer was killed and another injured after being attacked by an elephant while trying to protect their crops in Sherpur, reports UNB.
The incident happened around 3:00am on Friday in Julgaon area of the Sreebordi upazila border region.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim (35) of the area. The injured farmer Khabir Hossain was admitted to Sreebordi Upazila 50-bed Hospital, confirmed Sreebordi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Biplob Kumar Biswas.
"Abdul Karim was crushed to death by an elephant. His body has been kept at his house and a regular UD case has been filed at the police station,” said the OC.
According to police, the forest department and local sources, groups of wild elephants have been coming down from the hills for sometime in search of food in the crop lands of the border town of Sherpur.
In the early hours of Friday, a group of wild elephants raided the paddy field in Julgaon area under Balijuri Forest in Sreebordi.
Abdul Karim was killed on the spot when local farmers tried to chase away the elephants to protect the paddy field.
