A team of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Sunday arrested a suspected gold smuggler with 20 gold bars from Chuadanga’s Jibannagar border.
The market value of the seized gold bars weighing 2.33 Kgs is Tk 1.99 crore, the BGB said in a press release.
The arrestee was identified as Sahabul Mia (35), son of late Moksed Mandal, of Jibannagar’s Sadarpara area.
Lieutenant Colonel Masud Parvez Rana, director of 58-BGB battalion, said that a BGB patrol team took position at Jibanpara area after receiving information that a van driver will go to Jibannagar border to smuggle a large quantity of gold bars.
Later, they arrested the man with his van and seized 20 bars hidden behind the van seats, the press release said.
The BGB has filed a case with Jibannagar Police Station in this regard.
Meanwhile, the seized gold bars are being processed to be deposited at the Chuadanga treasury office.
