A Laxmipur court on Thursday delivered life imprisonment to a woman for killing her three-year-old son in Laharkandi Union under Sadar upazila of the district in 2021, reports BSS.
District and Sessions Judge Md Rahibul Islam delivered the verdict this afternoon.
The court also fined her Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer another one year imprisonment in jail.
The convict Sabina Yesmin Shilpi is the wife of Azimur Rahman Azim, a Saudi expatriate of Chandkhali village of Lahakandi union of the upazila.
According to court sources, on the night of September 26, 2021, Sabina Yesmin Shilpi killed her son with sharp blade (boti) and she tried to commit suicide at her house.
Later, police recovered Ayan's body from the spot and sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem and Sabina was arrested and taken to the police station.
The next day, Ayan's grandfather Humayun Kabir filed a murder case at Sadar Model Police Station.
On October 2, 2022, the investigating officer of the case and the sub- inspector (SI) of Sadar Model Police Station Sohel Mia filed a charge sheet against Sabina in the court.
After examining witnesses, the court found her guilty and handed down the punishment today.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.
