Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained a person with 22 gold bars measuring 4.416 kg from Darshana border in Chuadanga district.
Acting on an intelligence report, Moheshpur Battalion (BGB-58) commander Lt Col Masud Parvej Rana along with others ambushed Uthuli area of the border on Wednesday.
While crossing the ambush area, a motorcyclist was suspected and chased. At one stage, BGB managed to capture the person and seized the gold bars from his possession.
The arrestee is Md Sayeed Khan, son of Md Abdur Razzak Mandal, hailing from village Mobarakpara of Darshana under Chuadanga.
Estimated value of the recovered gold bars is Tk 3,489,134.
During interrogation, Sayeed Khan admitted that he was going to smuggle out the gold dodging tax.
